Guess the U.S. state by its shape.
This state shape guessing game is the first game me and the kiddos made on a random Saturday. Inspired by some Wordle-inspired games, we named it Statle (or should it be State-le? who knows), played it for a few days, then forgot about it. A few months later I got an alert that over a thousand people were playing our little state shape guessing game every day! Pretty fun, hope you enjoy.
Back when Wordle first became a thing I was looking for a simple project to build with my kids. They were learning geography, we'd just driven across the United States to spend a month in Vermont, and so we decided to play on the name Wordle with Statle. Soon after I realized someone else had done something similar but called their version Statele. They ended up getting featured in something somewhere that skyrocketed the awareness of an interest in these sorts of spinoffs. Their version is a little different, but a similar idea and goal.
That's a great question. When we first built our state shape guessing game we debating which spelling to use. On the one hand, Statle felt kind of like Stat-Ul, but Statele felt like Stat-L. There was no perfect way to trasform Wordle (which is built on a word that doesn't end with "E") into a word that's based on a word that does end with E. So, we chose Statle over Statele and moved on with our lives.
